Basic Conditions of Zakat

  • Nisab: wealth equal to the value of 52.5 tola silver (612.36 grams) or 7.5 tola gold (87.48 grams).
  • Duration: one lunar year passing over the nisab.
  • Rate: 2.5% (one-fortieth).
  • Includes: cash, bank balance, gold, silver, trade goods, shares and recoverable loans.
  • Deduct: immediately payable debts and loans.

Personal-use items (home, car, clothes, furniture) are not included in zakat.
